James Wong of The X-Files, The One and Final Destination has been reported to write and direct the ever-popular manga and bring it to the silver screen for 20th Century Fox.

Apart from the immediate We Own The Night (official site here)with Joaquin Phoenix and Robert Duvall out next week, Mark Wahlberg will also be portraying the boxer Mickey Ward in The Fighter, as well as the latest from M. Night Shyamalan’s The HappeningÂ scheduled to be released next summer.

The follow-up to the The Italian Job, The Brazilian Job, has also been announced, but the most exciting one is an unconfirmed report that he is offered to play Duke in G. I. Joe.

John Rambo out in January

Having watched how old and slowÂ Sylvester Stallone has become in Rocky Balboa last year, and how the movie never really made an impact, it is a wonder how Rambo, one that has muchÂ more action than the previous, will come out.

All will be revealed very early next year. John Rambo, out January 25.

Here’s hoping they are great Chinese period pieces…

A few big period pieces coming out from the Chinese movie industry, starting with:

Warlord
Starring Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro
I caught the first trailer once and only wished for more as that kind of strong intensity is seldom felt from a mere trailer. The editing made it looked fantastic and with that line-up, it shouldn’t go too wrong. This will be hitting theatres end of this year.

Then there are two coming out in 2008 based on the legendary Three Kingdoms:

1. Resurrection Of The Dragon
Starring Andy Lau, Samo Hung, Maggie Q and (recovering from a choke) Vaness Wu.
Not sure what to make of this (not so confident with this line-up) but the legendary story itself is interesting enough. No trailers yet but there’s a promotional documentary about the movie here.

2. Red Cliff
Starring another teaming-up between Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro, Chang Chen (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), Zhao Wei, Lin Chiling, Koyuki (The Last Samurai) and Shido Nakamura (Letters From Iwo Jima).
Now this I’m more confident in just by shallowly judging from the line-up. Plus it’s John Woo directing so top-notch action should be expected.

And finally,

The Forbidden Kingdom
Boasting a first collaboration effort between Jet Li and Jackie Chan. The marketing people should be having a field day with this.

Also starring Collin Chou (Matrix: Reloaded and Revolution) and Liu Yifei. When I first saw this line-up, it really looked good on paper. Then this name appeared, Michael Angarano?!!

Seriously? That’s when I realised this isn’t a Chinese epic. It’s Hollywood’s. All hopes down the drain now. If this is going to be something goofy, Shia LaBeouf would have been a much better choice. But why take an epic story and make it into this?? This had better be worth the Jet-Jackie onscreen collaboration.

There is however a short fight sequence between the two when their characters first meet, choreographed by Yuen Woo Ping. But personally, I think this film is going to tank.

LeBeouf joins Indy 4

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have confirmed the newest cast member for Indiana Jones 4 is none other than this summer’s hottest and youngest actor, Shia LaBeouf. He will be joining Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett, but sadly, no Sean Connery.

Movie will be out in the summer of 2008.

Is Superbad super good?

Same formula as American Pie – an x-rated teenage flick – and wishing to have a slice of that famous pie too, this comes from the same people who did Knocked-Up, Superbad is looking to be a chart-topper before the summer ends, or at least Sony is sure of it.
We however will most probably have to resort to DVD as it will more likely than not pass the censorship exam.

New animated movie that got lost?

Here’s something I’ve never heard of until just now.

Happily N’Ever After. An animated movie that didn’t seem to have gotten promoted here. Released back in January, a satirical retelling of the Disney classic, Cinderella. At first glance it looked interesting. But thinking more, it has the potential to really stink. And maybe that’s why I’ve never heard of it. Maybe.

But with the lack of ‘human’ animated movies of late, I’m really curious for it.

Starring Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Andy Dick and Sigourney Weaver.

American Idol The Movie???

Simon Cowell has announced he will be producing a movie titled “Star Struck” based on the American Idol format.

???

Is anyone like really excited about this? I mean, I’m an Idol fan, sort of, but even this should be beyond what the entertainment industry is capable of just to make some dough.

I’m curious to see if this will materialises.

Me Smash!

The Incredible Hulk is set to make a return after the first one tanked (I didn’t think it was that bad).

Next summer will see Ed Norton as Bruce Banner. I think he is a very good choice. Though I don’t really care for his co-star, Liv Tyler.

Green Hornet

40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up star, Seth Rogen will be writing up the script for The Green Hornet movie, planned to be released in 2009.

30 Days Of Night

Josh Hartnett stars in Steve Nile’s graphic novel 30 Days of Night that will be opening in October this year. The official website from Sony has more info with one scary kick-ass trailer.

Where’s Sin City?

No news yet when the delay will end for the sequel of Sin City. Guess all we can do is wait patiently till we can see Jessica Alba again on the silver screen.

Where’s Batman?

Dropping “Batman” from it’s title, the new sequel will be called Dark Knight. With new additions including Heath Ledger as The Joker and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent, with Maggie Gyllenhaal replacing Katie Holmes (phew!).
