Movie Reviews – in my oh-so-not humble opinion
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
Filed under: Comedy and Drama and Movie Reviews

dewey2.jpgThis is the type of humour that I really don’t or can’t get. The jokes are the stupid kind, they don’t really make sense, which is what John C. Reilly has so oftenly provided. They are just there because it’s stupidly funny. And I don’t appreciate stupidly funny. I don’t know why I would expect differently this time around. Oh yes, because of all those other positive reviews. Got my hopes up.

The premise of the movie was good: a parody of all those musical biopics, with a closer resemblance to Johnny Cash’s Walk The Line. The songs were incredibly entertaining and there’s a story there that when it wasn’t outrageous, it was pleasant.

dewey3.jpgHowever, the second half was a bit slower as the story got a little serious and didn’t really work with the parody theme. The story ultimately was nothing original from all the biopics out already and that’s where the second half really failed.

The movie would have done better if it wasn’t as over the top or stupid. Tolerable and sometimes even charming to a certain degree but a man separated into two from the waist, that’s just too much.

John C. Reilly however performed great with a surprising singing voice that I never knew he had. He probably sang everything live as well.

Rating: 4 / 10
